Activated carbon is sometimes used to remove polluted air and offensive odors because it has a high capability to absorb these substances. In this study, the capability of activated carbon pots for removing formaldehyde was examined. The capability becomes higher as the atmospheric temperature becomes higher. It, however, saturates when the pot is placed in an atmosphere in which the high concentration pollutant emits continuously. The capability is lower when the pot is filled up with soil than when the pot is empty because the surface area of the pot is less. The capability when a foliage plant is planted in the pot is also investigated. The activated carbon pot with a plant has the same capability as an empty pot because the plant also has a high capability to remove air pollutants. As for the results, the activated carbon pot with a plant has excellent capabilities to remove atmospheric pollutants and the capability holds according to the plant capability. It lasts as long as the plant is growing in the pot.
