A web-application system for event information delivery using XML & XSLT

摘要

This paper demonstrates a practical event information delivery system, implemented by XML and XSLT. The event information contain festivals, lectures, art exhibitions, and sports events in Kyoto area. The information is inputted through Web-based graphical user interface, and converted into XML format. Finally, the system generates HTML files, displaying event information in tabular format, for the homepage of Kyoto Branch Office, Mainichi Newspapers. The system was coded by XSLT-typed language “Xi (Extend it !)”, included in a free software BXS (Baykit XML Server) of Yokohama Baykit. The total amount of XSLT coding steps is less than 3,000 lines. This means that XML is not a "high fence" BPR tool. XML simplifies software system development process and decreases the total amount of software coding.
