Transporting cattle over tick line to feedlots

LOTFEEDERS are calling for procedures to allow cattle to be moved from properties behind the tick line into feedlots without having to be treated at a dip site. The move is designed to reduce the stress that cattle endure when dipped during transportwhich can heighten animal health and welfare issues at the feedlot. The standard procedure for moving cattle from a tick area to a non-tick area is to: Treat on-farm before transport; Manually inspect and dip at a registered dip site; Hold at dip site for four days if ticks are found on cattle; Permit given to allow cattle to move over the tick line if cattle are manually clean; Transport to feedlot. A more efficient procedure has recently been permitted for approved feedlots, whereby: cattle are givena visual check to see if they are clean on property; at a registered dip site, cattle are dipped and visually checked; Permit is given to allow cattle to move over the tick line
