AS many farmers' profit margins become tighter and tighter, they are looking for new and creative ways to lower input costs. One such way for lot-feeders could be through the use of manure from the feed-lot, turning it into compost and spreading it onto their broadacre crops. Compost Australia industry development officer Doug Hall, one of the speakers at the recent WA Lot Feeders Association (WALFA) Better Beef Conference, said putting compost on crops was helping increase pH levels.
