Characterization of farmers participating to research projectto cope with climate change in Northeast Thailand

Major rice growing area of Thailand is under rainfed ecosystem located in northeastern region with low grain yield (2.3 t/ha, OAE 2018). Drought and flood have often occurred, which is concerned to be intensified by climate change in future. Thai government has initiated participatory research projects for rainfed rice farmers to cope with climate change in 2012 (BRRD 2012) whereas increasing number of participatory research on rice has been reported (Mitchell et al., 2014; Rahman et al., 2015; Singhet al., 2014). However, most of the participatory research do not report characteristics of participating farmers as compared with many other farmers of their villages. This study aimed to characterize farmers participating to research project to cope with climate change in Northeast Thailand as compared with non-participants. Their yield level and perception of climate change are also analyzed.
