V.A. Kovda, an outstanding soil scientist with encyclopaedic knowledge, made a large contribution to the study and scientific substantiation of saline soil reclamation and the development of the biogeochemistry and theory of the biospheric role of soil. He also significantly contributed to the organization and development of national and world soil science.
