In recent years, the Norton grape and its close cousin Cynthiana have experienced a resurgence in popularity as wine grapes, especially in Southern and Midwestern states such as Missouri, Arkansas and Virginia. Grown extensively throughout the eastern United States in the nineteenth century, the origins of these grape varieties have long been shrouded in mystery.
