In Toba aquarium, the breeding of Finless porpoise was started in 1963, and 15 calves has been born over the past 50 years. They are reproductively active in spring to summer. The gestation lasts about one year. Most females gave birth during the evening to early morning and tended to produce single offspring. The average of the length of calf at birth was about 80cm. Lactation was confirmed after a few hours of the birth, and resumed every 10 minutes all the day. The calves started taking fish at about 3 to 8 months and lactation decreased with the increasing of fish intake. In the past, the artificial nursing of neonates Finless porpoises that were born in Toba aquarium or protected was not going well, and ended with a short period. However, we succeeded in the artificial nursing of the calf that was born on the second of May, 2013.
