摘要

Intrapopulation polymorphisms in migration and life history have increasingly been reported in recent sea turtle studies that used satellite telemetry and stable isotope analysis. To interpret these phenomena, similar phenomena reported in other taxa such as insects, fishes, amphibians, birds, and mammals were referred to. A possible mechanism that produces and maintains migratory polymorphism in adult female loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) was considered from recent findings that used telomere length as a proxy for age of recruits (first-time nesters). How alternative life histories are related to the differences in fitness of sea turtles was also discussed.
