摘要

The problem of producing metal mold castings from iron with fine uniformly distributed graphite and a predetermined as-cast metal base without further treatment, which can be achieved by inoculation, is topical. To produce metal mold castings with a predetermined as-cast structure, an inoculant must comprise graphitizer components and components that ensure the required performance characteristics. Zr concentrate was used as a raw material to produce inoculating additives in metal mold casting. Test results showed that the optimum amount of Zr introduced by the ore is 0.1 to 0.2 percent, the results slightly exceeding the GOST requirements. The technology may be recommended for the production of brake blocks and other parts that operate under friction conditions.
