Newly developed several alloys containingpalladium were considered for use in brazing titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4 V for jet or rocket engine applications: 40 Pd-50 Ni-10 Co,40 Pd-49 Ni-10 Co-1 B, 40 Pd-47 Ni-10 Co-3B, and 30Pd-50Ni-10 Co-10 Cu (all in wt-%). Palladium braze alloys wereselected because of their oxidation resistance, ductility,relatively high melting points, and lower cost than gold-basedbraze alloys. Brazing was conducted in a resistance-heatedvacuum furnace. The reactions and microstructures were studiedin experimental brazed joints between Ti-6 Al-4 V and the brazealloys. Tensile tests of the joints were carried out at roomtemperature, 200, 400, 600, and 800 deg C. Joints brazed with30 Pd-50 Ni-10 Co-10 Cu had the highest tensile strengths, thatis, 733 Mpa, 669Mpa, 586Mpa, and 455 Mpa at roomtemperature, 200, 400, and 600 deg C, respectively.
