ETS-VII inter-orbit satellite communication operations and development of ETS-VII/TDRS experimental system

The ETS-VII/TDRS Experimental System provides an operational environment for inter-orbit satellite communication between the Engineering Test Satellite VII (ETS-VII) and the NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). The system enables the transmission of ETS-VII telemetry and the transmission of commands, as well as scheduling. The system was developed and verified in a short period by using the technical heritage for inter-orbit satellite communication. Since the end of January 1998,the system has been carrying out its mission successfully, providing Japan's first practical inter-orbit satellite communication environment to ETS-VII.This report provides a summary of the system design and test results, and of inter-orbit satellite communication operations.
