System 97 metropolitan expressway traffic control system

摘要

The metropolitan expressway traffic control system was first introduced in the Tokyo metropolitan area in 1968 on an experimental development basis, to enhance traffic safety in the expressway network and to ensure a comfortable and smooth driving environment. Over the many years since that time, the system has been recognized as an important social system and is operating day and night throughout the year.In recent years, demand for more advanced traffic information has been growing with the widespread dissemination of new media such as car navigation systems, coupled with the need for selection of alternative routes due to the opening of newly constructed expressways to traffic. To satisfy this demand, a new traffic control system (System 97) was developed in 1997 by renewing the existing system.
