The process computer system in Shibukawa Plant of Daido Steel Co., Ltd. was installed 1986, and has built 28 systems. It was the hierarchy system which aimed at the optimum functional assignment with a host system. But it had the following problems. (1) The number of connection was restricted by connection of point-to-point. (2) For the network, being dependent on makers, the degree of selection of the apparatus which could be constituted was low, and correspondence was restricted to the problems in the network. (3) It was difficult to apply the system to a large-scale system with the original language. Moreove, there were many handmade parts with small ranges in which a soft appropriation was possible.Moreover from the use,; the past actual result was freely requested also for reference, analysis, and the function that can be evaluated. However new infrastructure (FDDI, ETHERNET) for the plant was also planned (completed 1998), and the premise of open technical application to a process computer system was readyThen, we decided that the process computer system, with application of open technology and with installation plan of new equipment, should be reconstructed. Since the correspondence to the reservation of a response and 24 hour continual operation was aimed at this time, through the open-technical application example of Steel Manufacture and Forging-Press Factory, a process computer system was reconstructed as a first step.
