Welcome Address

摘要

It's an honor to address this distinguished group of biomedical investigators from across industry, government, and academia. I would like to express my thanks to the organizers of the Kitasato-Harvard Symposium for having invited me to do so. This symposium is addressing the leading questions in global biomedical research today: how to make the most innovative use of science and technology to address unmet medical needs by developing required drugs and targeting them appropriately to the patients who need them. I was delighted to see a prominent mention of the value of partnership between pharmaceutical companies and Academic research institutes in the symposium overview. I spent my career exploring some partnerships as the director of the Statistics Coordinating Center for the NIH founded AIDS clinical trials group and also as an Academic research developing new Statistical approaches to handle challenges as they arise in Biomedical research.
