摘要

A new technology for bonding titanium and steelin air was developed for low cost production of titanium cladsteel coils. A copper sheet is inserted between the titanium andsteel to be bonded. A molten titanium-copper intermetalliccompound is formed by the solid phase reaction between thetitanium and copper, and by rolling it is squeezed out of theinterface together with oxides and residual air. The freshtitanium and steel surfaces thus created are directly bond-ed.The oputimum heating temperature for this process is 850 to 900deg C respectively. The bond strength produced by the newprocess is about 180 MPa, which is lower than that of titaniumclad steel made by directly rolling together titanium and steel invacuum, but is higher enough for practical purposes. Titaniumclad steel produced by the new process is used for corrosionprotection of steel structure in marine zone, for example, steelpier of "A qua Line in Tokyo Bay".
