Surgical Method for the Treatment of Upper Eyelid Lagophthalmos

Upper eyelid traction is defined as an abnormally high position of the upper eyelid, which results in widening of the palpebral fissure and development of lagophthalmos, commonly known as the "staring look." Our technique is very simple and involves the following steps ： a horizontal cut ； release of the contracture, aponeurosis, Muller's muscle, and conjunctiva ； and suturing the aponeurosis and Muller's muscle vertically. Some degree or dog-ear" on the tarsus and the posterior aponeurosis will develop, but usually disappears within 2 to 4 weeks. Patients' upper lid traction is lowered with our method.
