An economic estimation of distribution system reliability using power interruption costs

Many studies on power interruption costs have been reported in various countries so far. However, as far as authors know there is no report on an application method of power interruption costs for power distribution system planning. This study is aimed to evaluate an effect of power interruption costs on the distribution system planning to improve power supply reliability. The power interruption cost is considered as one of the useful index to estimate reliability in terms of economy from both supplier's and consumer's viewpoints, and it has become more important in evaluating system reliability in the optimal system planning or operation problems recently. This paper reports an application method of power interruption costs for the distribution system planning and the detailed simulation results for a model feeder system.
