摘要

Parkia roxburghii G Don is an important multipurpose tree species of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland, the pods and seeds are used by the local people as a dietary supplement. Population of this tree bean species is rapidly dwindling due to insect and pest attack. Rapid afforestation is needed to overcome this problem that needs sufficient production of quality planting material with ensured genetic superiority. Therefore, this paper deals with assessing the influence of seed source and temperature on germination behaviour and seedling vigour of this important species. Among various seed sources, seeds from Aizawl had better germination percentage at, constant temperature (25°C ) and Bilkhawthlir seeds had the highest germination percentage at alternate temperature (17.5°C/30.0°C). Seeds from Champhai took least time to germinate irrespective of the temperature regime. Khampat and Aizawl seed sources were found to be better in terms of seedling vigour.
