The Editorial of Volume 34 (1948), "edited by the staff of the Royal Naval Medical School", opened with a "word of explanation about the present position of the Journal of the Royal Naval Medical Service ... It will be recalled that prior to the outbreak of war the Editors of the Journal were the Professors of Medicine and Surgery at R.N. Hospital, Haslar. When the "batch" system ceased and the Professors went as divisional Senior Medical Officers to R.N. Hospital, Barrow Gurney, they continued to edit the Journal from there; but when this hospital closed down towards the end of 1946, the editorial duties devolved on S.M.O. (M) and S.M.O. (S) at R.N. Hospital, Haslar. It is anticipated that about the middle of 1948, when the new R.N. Medical School opens at Monckton House, Alverstoke, Gosport, the office of the Journal will find a new and permanent home there under the editorship of the Staff of the School."
