DANIEL DUNMIRE EXPLORES HOW A TRANSLATIONAL CORROSION SCIENCE PROGRAM CAN HELP THE DOD MEET THE CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINING MILITARY ASSETS AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Daniel J. Dunmire, director of the Department of Defense (DoD) Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office, presented a special briefing on Translational Corrosion Science on August 8, 2017, as part of the "DoD Corrosion: Policy, Law, and Transition" workshop at the 2017 DoD-Allied Nations Technical Corrosion Conference in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Dunmire has also spoken about the topic at the SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings annual conference and the Material Sustainment: Transformational Corrosion Science symposium hosted by the National Defense University (Fig. 1). In the question-and-answer format that follows, Mr. Dunmire elucidates the origins and principles of translational science in order to illuminate how its tenets can be applied to the challenges faced by the DoD Corrosion Office and military corrosion community worldwide.
