Daily activity of the pest slug Arion lusitanicus Mabille.

The daily activity of Arion lusitanicus was studied in grassland in Austria during August 1995, using mark-recapture techniques. A high level of activity was observed in the morning, 1-1.5 h after sunrise, and an increase in activity was observed inthe late afternoon with a peak at 20.00 h. Activity in the evening was higher in moist conditions and the end of activity in the morning was delayed in overcast conditions. Hot, dry conditions did not reduce activity. The mean distances travelled between 2 recordings were also considered.
