First Report of Dieback of Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L) Incited by Dothiorella (spp) Fr.) AJL Phillips, causing in India

Corylus avellana L., also known as filbert, belongs to the family Betulaceae, is a deciduous, monoecious tree and is bestowed with mono-unsaturated fatty acids protein (10-20%), folic acid and an excellent source of vitamin E that enhance the human immune response (Ozdemir, 2001; Samon, 1999). In India, It is grown in some pockets of Himachal Pradesh and J&K. Routine periodical survey of hazelnut cultivars viz., Tonda Romana, Tonda Giffoni and Tonda Gentile delle Langhe (30No.) at Sharbo, Kinnaur were observed to be infected with dieback. Data on per cent disease severity was recorded for all cultivars as per Mc Kinney (1923).
