Induction of lignolytic enzymes in substrates amended with various concentration organic substitutes revealed that the cellulolytic enzyme activity of black popular mushroom Agrocybe aegerita was higher in medium amended with paddy straw (lg) and ricebran (100 mg) combination whereas the lignolytic enzyme activity was higher in medium amended with paddy straw (lg) + horse gram (250 mg) combination. Yield enhancement studies of Agrocybe agerita in paddy straw substrate with the supplementation of 10per cent rice bran, horse gram under different subtropical and temperate conditions revealed paddy straw supplemented with r.ce bran at 10 per cent was found to be promising substrate as it recorded minimum days for spawn run, pinhead formation and higher yield with maximum biological efficiency ranging from 56 to 60 per cent irrespective of the subtropical or temperate conditions. Shelf life studies revealed that A. aegerita could be stored under refrigerated condition for about 20-30 days when compared to natural condition which lasted only for 1-2 days, whereas sun dried and powdered mushrooms could be stored up to six months. The present findings showed the possibilities on diversification of commercial cultivation of new mushroom species like Agrocybe aegerita in subtropical conditions.
