An unusual case of negative-pressure pulmonary edema

Negative-pressure pulmonary edema (NPPE) is a rare but life-threatening complication of upper airway obstruction (1). Here, an unusual case of negative-pressure pulmonary edema is reported to highlight this condition. A 23-year-old female weighing 45 kg was scheduled for left orbital rim reconstruction after a traumatic orbital fracture. Before surgery, her medical and physical examination were unremarkable. The patient was fasted overnight and received diazepam 5 mg at night and in the morning of the surgery.
