Application of Cone-shaped kernel distribution in the time-frequency analysis of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions

Transient evoked otoacoustics emissions (TEOAEs) have been widely used for testing the hearing capability. TEOAEs are also useful in diagnosing the cochlea disorders of hearing losing patients, monitoring the medicine-induced ototoxicity and identifying the hearing impairment due to some special causes. In order to investigate the time-frequency distribution of TEOAEs, this article introduced a time-frequency analysis method based on the Cone-shaped kernel distribution (CKD), and compared it with several other commonly-used quadratic time-frequency analysis methods such as pseudo Wigner distribution (PWD), running-windowed exponential distribution (ED), reduced interference distribution (RID). Our simulation showed that CKD is the most suitable for describing the time-frequency features of TEOAEs. As an application, we studied 24 series of binaural TEOAE signals recorded from 12 normal-hearing adults based on this method.
