Two bulk metallic glasses have been studied by mechanical spectroscopy through the glass transition range. The α-relaxation peak observed can be interpreted by the onset of long range movements in the supercooled liquid region. At lower temperature, a sub-Tg relaxation process is observed in the Pd-Cu-Ni-P alloy, but not in the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be alloy. An explanation involving the possibility of relaxation of clustered units around the P atoms is proposed. At high temperature crystallisation occurs and leads to a decrease of internal friction.
