The use of dental CT for age profiling

The accurate assignation of age estimates to the living and the deceased has become an essential part of forensic science. Determining the identity of a decedent is a medicolegal requirement in many judicial systems [1]. An accurate estimation of age can reduce the range of possible identities that the human remains must be compared to in order to obtain a positive identification [1]. Events which require verification of age include refugees migrating from war torn countries with no official documentation of identification; victim identification of unknown human remains in mass disasters; and in criminal acts where individuals who committed the act claim to be minors [2-5].
