Sonangol P&P has awarded Sonamet the major contract for the development of three shallow water fields off Angola, meaning platforms will be fully fabricated in-country for the first time. The Subsea 7/Sonangol joint venture has lost out to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in "ecent times but there is a sense it is being compensated for this, with sources saying it will be given the fabrication contract for the small platforms at its Lobito yard for the development of the Caco, Gazela and Punja fields in Sonangol's own Block 3/05. The deal also includes brownfield work and pipelines. Saipem and Technip are believed to have been rivals in the bidding.
