Benchmarking NPD success factors in the Australian food processing industry

摘要

Managing NPD is a difficult balance between committing resources for on-going development of products and screening out potential products that have little to add to the competitiveness of the firm. Food manufacturers require an understanding of thedrivers of successful new product development at the program level to ensure that a continuous stream of successful products is available. This paper reports the results of a study designed to uncover various program level factors that drive NPD successin the context of the Australian food manufacturing industry. The results demonstrate that NPD performance is driven by a number of factors including: market orientation, strong cross-functionality, adequate resource allocation, strategic planning, and management support and involvement.
