The rush of pre-salt drilling off Gabon continues with Perenco preparing to spud its own wildcat before the end of this month. The French private firm has spent the last two years derisking the large Sputnik prospect in 3 280ft (1,000m) of water in the 4,000sq km Arouwe block which ExxonMobil fanned into late last year. The lead is a 60sq km four-way dip closed structure in the pre-salt carbonate play equivalent to that in Angola and Brazil. Mean reserves are put at 260m bbl of oil with a chance of success put at 27%.
