Mass culture of Acartia spp. as live feed for marine fish larvae and utilization in aquaculture industry were well documented worldwide. The aim of this study was to analyse the nauplii production in calanoid copepod A. southwelli as live feed to themarine fish larvae and to understand basic biology and the developmental stages of A. southwelli nauplii in culture. The experiment for nauplii production per female I day was conducted with the adult stocking density of (2 nos adults mL~(-1)). The meandaily nauplii production (female-1day-1) of A. southwelli was calculated based on the number of surviving females per day in each replicate. Total mean nauplii production female day was 13.8±0.9 recorded in nine days of continues culture. Eggs are freely broadcasted in the water and sink to bottom. Average eggs of 20±5 were individually spawned in a day and hatched after 20+2 hours in 27.5-28.5°C. The nauplii production in the given adult stocking density was significantly differ (p < 0.01) from higher in female day1 to day 5 (21±2.0 to 19.6±1.6) and tend to decrease from day6 14.6±2.8 to 2.1±0.7 female on day9. In conclusion, based on the present study, the selected calanoid copepod A. southwelli has all basic culture characteristics requiredfor a livefeed and much recommended for feeding marine fish larvae. A. southwelli nauplii (NI) in combination with enriched rotifers of appropriate size may also can be used as livefeeds in marine fish hatcheries.
