Steelmaker Pilot is being developed under a three-year project funded by the U.S. Dept. of Energy and has 10 supporting development partners who are affiliated with the Steel Manufacturers Association. The system has been tested at Tamco, and significant reductions in tap temperature and electric power consumption have been realized. Further productivity and energy gains are expected. Additional demonstration tests are to be conducted at Charter Steel, Saukville, Wis., and Gerdau AmeriSteel, Jackson, Tenn.
