Development and Implementation of a Setup Model in the SIDOR Temper Mills

Through the implementation of a physical-mathematical setup model at SIDOR's temper mills, the amount of reprocessed material decreased, there were fewer cylinder changes, and both productivity and product range increased. SIDOR depends largely on three temper mills, which in the past had a high level of uncertainty in regard to the presets of rolling. This was due to the nonexistence of a physical-mathematical model for the calculation of these preset values, taking into account the material and the condition of the equipment. This uncertainty reduced the trustworthiness of the operation and consequently brought on the necessity to implement stricter controls of inspection, operation of regulators in inadequate ranges of operation, high levels of reprocessed materials and limitations in the development of new products. So it became necessary to implement a setup model for the temper mills that would reduce this high level of uncertainty.
