Correlation Between Severity of Coronary Artery Lesions and Risk Factors of Coronary Heart Disease

Purpose: This clinical study was designed to investigate the characteristics and clinical manifestations of the risk factors of coronary heart disease in patients with coronary heart disease and explore the correlation between the severity of coronary artery lesion and the risk factors of coronary heart disease. Methods: A total of 731 hospitalized patients received coronary angiography and confirmed that 674 cases with coronary heart disease were assigned into the coronary heart disease group and 57 diagnosed with atherosclerosis and with stenosis degree <50% into the control group. Clinical data of enrolled subjects were recorded. The risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases included high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and left ventricular ejection fraction, etc. The relationship between the risk factors of coronary heart disease and the degree of stenosis was statistically analyzed. Results: In the coronary heart disease group, male, type 2 diabetes and smoking were correlated with the incidence of coronary heart disease (all P < 0.05, OR = 18.692, 12.599-27.733; 17.533, 10.421-29.500 and 48.200, 19.982-116.854). Type 2 diabetes and smoking were associated with the severity of coronary lesions (both P < 0.05, OR = 7.18, 1.528-2.220 and 10.09, 1.998-2.527). Patients with coronary heart disease were accompanied with decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (P < 0.05, OR = 1.041, 1.036-1.045), reduced creatinine clearance rate (P < 0.05, OR = 2.051, 5.137-17.594) and elevated hs-CRP levels (P < 0.05, OR = 2.125, 1.863-2.423). In addition, the changes in these parameters were correlated with the severity of coronary artery lesions. Conclusion: Among conventional risk factors related to coronary heart disease, smoking, male and type II diabetes were closely correlated with coronary heart disease. Moreover, decreased cardiac and renal function and hs-CRP level elevation were associated with the severity of coronary artery lesions to certain extent.
