Accuracy of 3 imaging modalities for evaluation of the posterior lens capsule in traumatic cataract

Early or late cataract may develop secondary to blunt or penetrating ocular trauma. Lens injuries could result in loss of transparency or dislocation of the lens.Traumatic cataract is often associated with injury to the cornea, iris, vitreous, and retina and can be accompanied by lens fragmentation or swelling, precluding visualization of the posterior lens capsule on slitlamp examination. In these cases, imaging devices should be used to evaluate the posterior lens capsule status before surgery. However, the best method for evaluation of the posterior lens capsule in eyes with traumatic cataract has not been determined.
