Strong ongoing recovery but car sales remain miles off pre-crisis levels

Scrappage incentive helped boost Spain's car sales to a level not seen for years, but in spite of 10 successive good gains in a row, at this year's halfway stage sales still trail pre-crisis 2007 levels by almost a half. A new mood of optimism has gripped Spain's long-suffering car dealers following news that one of Europe's previously hardest-struck car markets has grown by a strong 23.9 per cent in June after rising strongly for nine successive months in a row. The fifth double-digit gain in six months brings Spain's half-year car sales total to 454,942 units, up 17.8 per cent over last year's comparative total.
