TRUCKS: Mercedes unveils more economical truck engine for mainstay heavy duty trucks

Mercedes, the world's leading manufacturer of trucks above 6t GVW, all too aware of the crucial role played by the cost of fuel in road haulage, has unveiled a more fuel-economical version of its mainstay six-cylinder OM 471 heavy duty truck engine. Potential music to the ears of a highly cost conscious road-haulage industry, its revamped OM 471 engine is 3 per cent more fuel economical than its same name predecessor, the company said late last week. Across Europe the date for the commercial release of the latest generation of the OM 471 is 6 July 2015.
