Briefly stated,carbon capture and sequestration(CCS)will allow us to sustain many of the benefits of access to hydrocarbons even in a carbon constrained world.Even where the CO2 generated by burning hydrocarbon cannot be captured easily(as in the case of oil use for transportation),sequestration of CO2 from other sources(e.g.,coal fired power stations)can help create,to some degree,the"headroom"needed to allow for the volumes of CO2 which escape capture.
