Abstract <section xml:id="jctb5318-sec-0001" numbered="no"> <title type="main">BACKGROUND xml:id="jctb5318-para-0001"> The aqueous two‐phase extraction ( <fc>ATPE</fc> ) based on organic solvent and inorganic salt was considered a promising method in the extraction, enrichment, and purification field. Ionic liquids ( <fc>ILs</fc> ) used as additives to the aqueous two‐phase system ( <fc>ATPS</fc> ) can improve the extraction yield. </section> <section xml:id="jctb5318-sec-0002" numbered="no"> <title type="main">RESULTS xml:id="jctb5318-para-0002"> In this study, seven <fc>ILs</fc> were added to the ethanol/ammonium sulfate <fc>ATPS</fc> and used for the salting‐out extraction ( <fc>SOE</fc> ) of sinomenine from <fi>Sinomenium acutum</fi> . The <fc>IL</fc> [ <fc> C <sub>2</sub> OHmim </fc> ] <fc> FeCl <sub>4</sub> </fc> was screened as the optimal additive, then the influencing factors <fc>IL</fc> amount, ethanol concentration, salt concentration, and temperature were investigated. The maximum extraction efficiency of 96.4% was obtained under the following conditions: 23.06?wt% ethanol concentration, 27.28?wt% ( <fc> NH <sub>4</sub> </fc> ) <fc> <sub>2</sub> SO <sub>4</sub>
