CSN NEARS COMPLETION OF BF MODERNIZATION, PLANS NEW HDG LINE

Brazil’s Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) plans to complete modernization it its BF No.3 at Usina Presidente Vargas in end-August, Metal Expert learnt from the company’s conference call on Q2 2019 results.The BF No.3 was shut down for scheduled maintenance due to the end of its operational campaign in Q1 2019. It was previously refurbished in 2001.“The process leading to the shutdown was ever more difficult at a higher cost than we had imagined,” said Benjamin Steinbruch, President, CSN’s Chairman and CEO. “Beginning in September, we are convinced that the blast furnace in terms of quantity and productivity will return with higher rates.”
