THYSSENKRUPP SEEKS FOR CLIMATE-NEUTRAL STEEL PRODUCTION

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has recently approved climate targets of Germany’s thyssen- krupp and has confirmed that the company is acting in line with the goals established at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference. thyssenkrupp’s strategy is to become climate-neutral by 2050 amid the recent EU plans to commit the European economy to fully CO2-free production from 2050 onwards. To achieve this, the steelmaker has set two binding medium-term targets: emissions from production and sourced energy are to be cut by 30% com- pared to 2018, while emissions from the use of products and technologies by customers are to be reduced by 16% com- pared to 2017.
