EC “STOPS THE CLOCK” IN THYSSEN-TATA JV INVESTIGATION

The European Commission (EC)”stopped the clock” in its in-depth investigation regarding the merger between Thyssenkrupp and Tata Steel due to lack of necessary information in time. The EC confirmed that it temporarily suspended the investigation in the JV on November 30 as the parties failed to provide an important piece of information for the control proceeding in time. As a result the deadline for the final EC’s decision that was previously set on March 19 will be extended. “Once the missing information is supplied by the parties, the clock is re-started and the deadline for the Commission’s decision is then adjusted accordingly,” an EC spokesman said.
