The German State of Hessen will participate in JEC World for the first time.Hessen has a balanced landscape of both supplier and user companies for lightweight design and construction.Suppliers are the chemicals and plastics industry in the Frankfurt area as well as metal and wood processing in North and Middle Hessen.While the companies in the South of Hessen come from mechanical and electrical engineering,logistics and engineering consultancy,the spotlight in North and Middle Hessen is on mechanical engineering,electronics and optics as well as furniture construction.Mechanical engineering,medical engineering and the furniture industry show an above-average lightweight design development with mechanical engineering being the chief growth sector for lightweight design throughout Hessen.Roughly 10% of the mechanical engineering companies based in Hessen already have a reputation for lightweight design.In terms of materials in the field of medical engineering and life science,lightweight design is an ongoing trend,especially for prostheses,orthoses and mobility aids.Furthermore,companies profit from nine universities,comprising 26 specialist departments,three research institutions and seven competence centres and clusters engaging in lightweight design.
