A study of different stocking composition of fish species in polyculture was carried out in Tan Phu Thanh Village, Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province in 2001. Two treatments of stocking composition with three replications of which each were 80% of giant gouramy 15% of tilapia and 5% of common carp in treatment 1 and 50% of giant gouramy, 30% of tilapia and 20% of kissing gouramy in treatment 2. Fish were stocked at 5 fish/m2 and were fed on farm by-products (water spinach, sweet potato leaves, and other macrophytes), as well as natural feed (phytoplankton, zooplankton, zoobenthos and detritus). After eight months, the survival rate and production of fish in two treatments were 61% and 69%; 5.4 and 5.6 t.ha-1, respectively. But there was no significant difference between the two treatments at P>0.05. Fish population in treatment 2 showed better results. Based on aquaculture activity in a VAC system, farmers could get more benefits from fish at low cost.
