AUSTRALIA — Caltex says upgrade work at its Newport terminal that supplies Victoria, including new 25 million liter jet fuel tanks supplying Melbourne airport, has been completed ahead of schedule and under its A$75 million ($57 million) budget. The firm has built two new fuel tanks, expanding storage capacity at Newport from 60 million liters to 100 million liters, and added new pipes and pumping equipment, increased truck loading capacity, revamped access to improve traffic flow and upgraded the terminal’s safety systems. The Newport terminal stores and distributes multiple grades of gasoline and diesel, as well as jet fuel. Caltex Australia CEO Julian Segal said Dec. 1, “the upgrade of the Newport terminal is an example of Caltex’s strong commitment to our customers alongside safe and reliable operations across Australia. We are just about to clock up 118 years serving Australians and with things heating up and summer around the corner we all want to keep moving.” The firm has now launched a community art competition to decorate the new jet fuel tank. Caltex Executive General Manager, Fuels and Infrastructure Louise Warner said, “our terminal is better than ever after the upgrade, however, it is a bit plain, so we are searching for talent to submit a design to decorate one of our new jet tanks so it becomes a unique feature.”
