CHINA-China will start increasing the number of inter-national flights into the country from Jun. 1 onward-as long as imported coronavirus cases remain under control. But deputy chief of China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) Li Jian told state media that flights are not likely to triple to 407 a week as planned. The government cut inter-national flights to China to 134 a week in late March when imported cases started rising, at a time when the domestic outbreak had been contained (JFI Apr.27’20). Suspension of international flights, which used to exceed 8,000 a week, has further clobbered jet demand. Energy Intelligence calcu-lates that China’s apparent jet demand plunged to 186,000 b/d in April, down 75% from a year ago, making it the hard-est-hit refined product. China’s jet exports in April rose to 536,000 b/d, up 31.4% from a year ago, even as refiners curbed jet kerosene output to 641,000 b/d, down almost 43% from 2019 rates.
