Despite a decline in coal demand in Europe and North America, global coal production increased in 2017. It is forecast to continue to grow over the next several years. According to Forbes, coal remains the cornerstone of urbanisation and is the backbone of the world's electric power system. Mining and construction will continue to represent the largest use for off-the-road (OTR) tyres. Forecasts indicate that demand for OTR tyres will continue to grow through at least 2022. Growth in medium and small OTR tyres will lead the market in sales volume, but large and giant OTR tyres will also gain in sales, recovering from the losses experienced between 2012 and 2017. Projections suggest that sales of OTR tyres will outperform the overall economy.
