A New Cylindera Species from Palau Islands, Micronesia (Coleoptera, Cicindelidae)

Abstract A new tiger beetle species, Cylindera (Ifasina) takahashii n. sp,, is described from Palau Islands, Western Micronesia Obviously belonging to the discreta-gtoup, it however differs from the other known congeners by several characters, the general facies and the submetallic shine of elytra. Tiger Beetles are usually scarce or quite absent in most oceanic islands, As far the vast Pacific area is concerned, a review was made some years ago by CASSOLA (1983), who listed all the few tiger beetlespecies which have been recorded in the entomological literature: three widespread Oriental or New Guinean species in the Vanuatu Islands (one of which occurring in the Loyalty Is, as well); one endemic species in the Ogasawara Islands, Japan; two species (one endemic) in the Fiji Is.; two species (one endemic) in the Samoa Is. (CASSOLA, 1983, 1986).
