Discovery of an Interesting New Species of the Genus Conocephalus THUNBERG, 1815 (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae) from Izu Peninsula, Central Honshu, Japan

An interesting new species which restrictedly inhabits the reed community growing along the edge of brackish waters, is described as Conocephalus halophilus sp. nov. Eighteen years ago, I got an interesting tettigonid specimen belonging to the genus Conocephalus THUNBERG, 181.5 from Izu Peninsula under a light of a tourist house near seaside. At first sight, I convinced that it was unknown species from Japan because of its wide and straight ovipositor, In spite of my effort, no additional specimens have been taken for a long term. A few years ago, I got a wonderful information on Conocephalm sp. which seems to be closely related to this new species found in the water edge of Arakawa, Tokyo through Mr. M. UCHIDA. That place is situated just at the famous habitat of the halophilous damselfly, Mortonagrion hirosei ASAHINA, 1972.
